Die deutsche Ausgabe des neuen Buches der indischen Schriftstellerin Arundhati Roy ist nun im Fischer Verlag erschienen. Das Buch Aus der Werkstatt der Demokratie enthält eine Sammlung von Essays, welche Tendenzen der indischen und auch internationalen Politik beschreiben, die nach Roys Ansicht demokratische Grundsätze und soziale Maßstäbe immer weiter aushöhlen. Wie in der größten Demokratie der Welt durch ungezügeltes neoliberales Wachstum, Hindu-Nationalismus, Gier, Umweltszerstörung und Korruption die  soziale Gerechtigkeit immer mehr an Bedeutung verliert und zugunsten der Profitinteressen großer Konzerne die Ausbeutung und Unterdrückung der ohnehin schon armen Mehrheit Indiens weiter zunimmt. Arundhati Roy weist auf die damit verbundene zunehmende polizeiliche Willkür und Diskriminierung hin, welcher religiöse und ethnische Minderheiten in Indien  zunehmend ausgesetzt sind.
